We'd like to officially welcome our newest member of the Horrocks family - Diana Horrocks! Here is an account of her arrival:
So just a bit about the pregancy...I can't complain too much (a lot of women have it way worse), but I did have a lot of heartburn and fatigue (having a 1 and 3 year old is exhausting as is!). And this baby was super active in utero just like her brothers. My #1 pregnancy craving was ice cold milk - especially with cookies :). I was faithful in doing some of my strengthening exercises and I must say that I didn't feel I had as much back or hip pain as I did with the boys so I think that helped. Starting in the third trimester, I would swim laps once a week and that felt great. But no matter how you slice it, those last few weeks of pregnancy are killer!
The due date was June 18th. Roy came early and Brett came late so you we didn't know what to expect with this one. Our uncle Justin was going to get married on June 25 so we were really hoping she'd come early so that we could be part of the wedding festivities. I even had an induction date of June 20th just in case.
But on Sunday June 12th, Grandma Green, Justin, and Ashlyn brought us dinner and I started having contractions. They started getting close together and I thought we should go to the hospital, then they subsided. I went to bed at 11pm (like normal) but awoke at 12:30am with more contractions. It took me a while to figure out if this was IT or not, but then they started coming pretty fast and we were off to St. Vincent's at 3:30am.
The nurses there didn't waste anytime getting me in and ready seeing that this was my third baby. My nurse, Marcie, who had 40 years of experience, started barking orders to everyone. She told us that her shift ended at 7:30am and that she was certain she'd see our baby born before she left.
I was able to get the epidural quickly and it felt amazing! I rested for a little while then I started feeling some cramping/contractions again...then I REALLY started feeling it. They sent the anesthesiologist back in to boost the medication. I was told that it would take 15min to take effect but that's when the doctor came in and told me it was time to push. Well, that medication never took effect, and I'm not sure what happened but I felt EVERYTHING. I never thought I would be one of those screaming women during childbirth but it was excruciating and I was totally unprepared for that. At one point, I was pushing and I was in so much pain. Then I heard this low intense voice whispering right in my ear saying "Ok. You got this. Just a couple more pushes. You can do this". Since my eyes were closed I had no idea who was talking to me, but it was my nurse Marcie. I look back now and laugh at how intense and involved she was, but she really did help me.
I pushed for about 15 min and then she was out - at 7:28am (Marcie was right!). She weighed 8lbs, 7oz and was 21" long. I noticed her super long and dark long hair right away. She was beautiful and looked just like one of ours! Roy had always said he wanted to name her "Sweet Peas" and while that will be a great nickname for her, we named her Diana - a name you know and can spell and pronounce but don't hear often. I also wanted a name that would work easily in English and Spanish and it just seemed to fit.
I spent one night at the hospital with her before going home. Justin and Ashlyn took care of the boys while we were away and they were all able to visit us in the hospital. Roy has been so sweet - I find him sitting next to Diana singing "rock-a-bye baby" and commenting on "her cute little hands" and "cute little yawn". Brett loves her too - he always wants to hold her and see her but we have to watch him like a hawk because his brand of love is kind of....aggressive?? intense?? Soft, gentle, quiet are NOT words we use to describe him. We say that he is her greatest threat to survival, haha.
And of course, Jordan loves his little daughter. My heart melts when I see him hold her and say "Hi girl!". I don't think he's too thrilled about all the cute-sy and impractical frills that come with little girls, but truly, a girl couldn't ask for a better father.
Diana is a good little baby and our boys are good boys. We feel so very blessed. We admit that having 3 kids this little is kind of crazy and we will be definitely be exhausted and more home bound for a while! But that's ok - the plan is to try to embrace and enjoy this special phase of life!
Here are some of the pics right after her birth but she's already changed so much!
I was feeling so huge that Sunday night so I decided to take a selfie to document - I didn't know she'd be coming out so soon after!
